Liverpool’s Premier League hopes will be decided this Saturday when they travel to Old Trafford to take on league leaders Manchester United.

The Reds are seven points behind United, and a defeat here will effectively signify the end of their title hopes. It is as much of a landmark fixture as the one which saw United travel to Anfield and lose, thus marking Liverpool as genuine contenders for the title.

Liverpool mauled Real Madrid 4-0 in their midweek CL fixture. Captain Steven Gerrard scored twice, with Fernando Torres and Italian misfit Andrea Dossena also scoring on a great night for Rafa Benitez’s side. However their form in Europe has not always translated into form in the Premier League.

Liverpool form- last five games- all competitions- Liverpool scorers in brackets

Liverpool 4-0 Real Madrid ( Steven Gerrard*2, Fernando Torres, Andrea Dossena)
Liverpool 2-0 Sunderland ( David Ngog, Yossi Benayoun)
Middlesbrough 2-0 Liverpool
Real Madrid 0-1 Liverpool ( Yossi Benayoun)
Liverpool 1-1 Man City ( Dirk Kuyt)

Manchester United knocked Jose Mourinho and Inter out of Europe on Wednesday night. Although not one of their best displays, the Red Devils still got the job done. SAF would have been perturbed by the casual manner in which his men passed the ball around, and will call for more focus ahead of Saturday’s crunch game.

Manchester United 2-0 Inter Milan ( Nemanja Vidic, Cristiano Ronaldo)
Fulham 0-4 Manchester United ( Carlos Tevez*2, Park Ji Sung, Wayne Rooney)
Newcastle 1-2 Manchester United ( Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov)
Manchester United 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur
Inter 0-0 Manchester United

The last time Liverpool visited Old Trafford in the league, they were soundly beaten 3-0, with Javier Mascherano also getting sent off.

Liverpool have been in splendid form away from Anfield this season, and should Torres be fit enough to play, I think their determination could take them though.

Manchester United 1-2 Liverpool ( Ronaldo/Torres, Gerrard)
