Bristol City v Coventry Preview

Both of these clubs hold mild play off ambitions, although you’d have to say that Bristol City definitely have the stronger case. The Robins are sat in 9th just two points away from the top six, whereas their opponents Coventry are in the bottom half nine points away. Still, Sky Blues boss Chris Coleman believes there still is a chance and with City being one of their rivals for those positions, this game could be a real test for the Ricoh Arena side.
It looks as though it could go right to the wire for Bristol City in regards to their play off ambitions. The Robins have been down in the bottom half, up in the top six, and now just outside that zone so really it’s been a rollercoaster of a season. However, after putting together such good form a few weeks ago, recent results have been poor with City collecting just one point from their last three games. That’s included back to back defeats to Birmingham and Derby, although with just two points separating them from the play offs, it’s certainly not been too disastrous although it’s clear that they need to get back on track soon.
As for Coventry, their season was disrupted with a huge cup tie against Chelsea. In the end there weren’t any surprises with the Blues winning 2-0, but it will have been an excellent experience for Chris Coleman’s men nonetheless. Immediately after that he claimed his side are still in the hunt for the play offs although with nine points separating them from the top six, it will take something of a miracle for them to get there. They do have a couple of games in hand over a few sides around the top and having won three of their last six games, you could agree with Coleman to some extent and say they have an outside chance of getting there.
There’s not much team news to report for this one with David Noble being the only absentee for home side Bristol City. The midfielder picked up a minor injury in a reserve game has been definitely ruled out, although that’s the only information that Gary Johnson has released. Visitors Coventry are in a similar boat with Daniel Fox being the only player missing. Fox is out with knee ligament damage although Chris Coleman could decide to recall David Bell who missed the last game through ineligibility.
Chris Coleman might be optimistic over his side’s season, but we think Bristol City are the stronger side here. The Robins haven’t won in their last three but with the play off push getting intense, we think Gary Johnson’s men will pick up all the points in this one – 3-1 City.
