NCAA: Huge Match-Ups This Weekend
Posted on | March 6, 2009 | No Comments
As the last weekend of the regular season (for most teams) looms, there are a lot of huge match-ups. Leading the way is the Connecticut Huskies visiting the Pittsburgh Panthers. Other big games include Duke at North Carolina, Purdue at Michigan State, Texas at Kansas, and Syracuse at Marquette.
A couple weeks ago these 2 teams met and Pitt came out the winner. Pitt pushed around UConn and their center Thabeet. Can Pitt do it to UConn again? They’ll certainly try. But UConn coach Jim Calhoun is one of the top three coaches in the nation and he’ll devise a game plan that will attempt to take away much of Pitt’s physical dominance. And it will attempt to allow UConn’s physical gifts to outshine Pitt’s. Because Pitt is tougher but make no mistake about it, UConn has more talent. It’s that talent that will lift UConn to a narrow win.
Speaking of more talent, the North Carolina Tar Heels have a lot more talent than the Duke Blue Devils. I know much of the media continues to be in love with Duke year after year but the Blue Devils are just not that good. They will lose by double digits to the Tar Heels.
Michigan State will win by at least 8 points over the Purdue Boilermakers and Kansas will win by a similar margin over the Texas Longhorns. Marquette will beat the Syracuse Orange by double digits as well.
Of course, this is March and there has been a lot of madness already. There’s little doubt that the madness will continue this weekend. So, expect at least one of these games to go completely against the grain. But the madness is what makes college basketball so great in March. And as the conference tournaments are about to get underway, this weekend should be a lot of fun. So hold on and wait for the madness.
