You could say this game is the biggest in Charlton’s recent history. Some fans have already accepted the belief they are down, yet should they lose this game, they are almost certainly playing League One football next season. Twelve points currently separates them from safety and with Watford being fairly close in terms of positions, it’s a massive game for the Valley side.

Every week we seem to talk about the demise of Charlton and how they’ve fallen, so we won’t bore you again with those facts. Unfortunately, it’s hard to look at positives for the Addicks as this season has been one of 100%, pure misery. Under Phil Parkinson they’ve failed to shine and even when they pick up a good result, they simply haven’t been able to build on it. Looking at recent weeks they’ve had victories over Crystal Palace and Plymouth, but haven’t done anything else of note and that now means that Parkinson’s men are rooted to the bottom of the table on twenty seven points. With a dismal goal difference of -22, unfortunately for them it looks like their stay in the Championship could shortly be coming to an end.

As for Watford, it’s been a disappointing season for them as well but at least they have a fighting chance of staying up. The Hornets are just two points away from the drop zone in 19th which shows just how important their recent results have been. They may have lost their last game to Plymouth, but before that they recorded victories over Swansea, Blackpool and Crystal Palace which has at least taken a little pressure off them. However, they’re still well and truly in the relegation dogfight and with so many sides down there, they’ll see this game against the bottom of the league as a must, must win if they are to boost their chances of survival.

It’s mixed news for Charlton in regards to team news, with Phil Parkinson welcoming back Tresor Kandol and Zheng Zhi who have both not featured in recent fixtures. However, Parkinson will still be without Andy Gray, Jonathon Fortune and Jose Semedo who are all out injured. As for Watford, there’s not much to report for the Hornets. Brendan Rodgers is sweating on the fitness of Jay DeMerit but with adequate replacements on standby, he has got a fairly strong squad at his disposal for this one.

Charlton supporters will hope this isn’t true, but we’re really not sure if the Addicks have much to play for other than pride now. There may still be a reasonable amount of time until the season ends, but Phil Parkinson’s men are all but down and fellow strugglers Watford know they need to take advantage. The Hornets have been impressive of late and we expect this to continue here – 2-1 visitors.
