Manchester City vs Aston Villa preview

Posted on | March 3, 2009 | No Comments

Game : Manchester City (11th-32 points) vs Aston Villa (4th- 52 points)

Competition : English Premier League

Venue : City of Manchester Stadium, Manchester

Kickoff : Wednesday, 04 March 2009, 19.45 UK time.

After amazing dropping two points at home against Stoke City, Martin O’Neill’s Aston Villa travel to Eastlands to play Manchester City on Wednesday evening.

City’s dismal away form continued as they lost 1-0 to West Ham on Sunday. Mark Hughes is also facing an injury crisis. Star striker Robinho suffered an ankle injury after being tackled by Scott Parker, is likely to miss this game. Fellow striker Craig Bellamy and defender Micah Richards also suffered injuries in the game. Valeri Bojinov came on as a substitute against West Ham, and should Bellamy and Robinho both not be available, he could start along with Caicedo.

Manchester City form- last five games- all competitions ( Manchester City scorers in brackets)

West Ham 1-0 Man City
Man City 2-1 FC Copenhagen ( Craig Bellamy*2)
Liverpool 1-1 Man City ( Bellamy strike given as Arbeloa own goal)
FC Copenhagen 2-2 Man City ( Nedum Onouha, Stephen Ireland)
Portsmouth 2-0 Man City

Martin O’Neill was absolutely fuming after his Aston Villa side let slip a two goal lead with five minutes left on the clock to draw 2-2 against Stoke City at the weekend. John Carew scored an absolute wonder goal, but late strikes from Ryan Shawcross and Glenn Whelan saw Villa somehow take one point from the game instead of the expected three.

Aston Villa form- last five games- all competitions

Aston Villa 2-2 Stoke City ( Stilian Petrov, John Carew)
CSKA Moscow 2-0 Aston Villa
Aston Villa 0-1 Chelsea
Aston Villa 1-1 CSKA Moscow (John Carew)
Everton 3-1 Aston Villa ( James Milner)

Villa have won more games away than any other team in the league, and despite the talk of fatigue, I think they’ll have enough in them to beat Man City, especially if Bellamy and Robinho are absent. When these two met in the league at Villa Park, Agbonlahor grabbed a hat trick as Villa won 4-2.

Verdict:- Aston Villa 1-0 Man City ( Gabriel Agbonlahor)
