Game : Watford ( Championship) vs Chelsea FC ( English Premiership)
Competition : FA Cup fifth round
Venue : Vicarage Road, Watford
Kickoff : 12.45 GMT
Date : Saturday, 14 February, 2009
Relegation threatened Watford will aim to produce a giant killing act when they take on Chelsea on Saturday afternoon in a fifth round FA Cup clash.
Watford are currently third from bottom in the 24 team football Championship. Former Chelsea reserve team Brendan Rodgers is currently at the helm of affairs at Vicarage Road, and will be keen to upset his former bosses. The game will also see Frank Lampard senior ( currently a consultant with the club) against his son Frank Lampard Junior. The Hornets beat Crystal Palace in a seven goal thriller in the previous round. Jack Cork and Mark Williamson are ineligible to play.
Watford home- last five games- all competitions- Watford scorers in brackets
Wolves 3-1 Watford ( Adrian Mariappa)
Watford 3-0 Burnley ( Jobi McAnuff, Tamas Priskin*2)
Watford 4-3 Crystal Palace ( Jay de Merit, Jack Cork, Will Priskins, Grzegorz Rasiak)
Watford 0-2 Sheffield United
Reading 4-0 Watford
Chelsea have had their share of troubles recently, with manager Luis Felipe Scolari getting the boot after a poor run. Ray Wilkins is likely to be in charge of Chelsea this game, with incumbent manager Guus Hiddink likely to watch from the stands. Chelsea have already been knocked out of the League Cup this season, and will want to avoid a repeat of last season’s FA Cup embarassment, when they were beaten in the last eight by Burnley.
Chelsea form- last five games- all competitions ( Chelsea scorers in brackets)
Chelsea 0-0 Hull City
Liverpool 2-0 Chelsea
Chelsea 2-0 M’Boro ( Salomon Kalou*2)
Chelsea 3-1 Ipswich ( FA Cup) ( Michael Ballack*2, Frank Lampard)
Chelsea 2-1 Stoke City ( Juliano Belletti, Frank Lampard)
Chelsea and Watford met in the FA Cup five years ago. The Hornets managed to hold Chelsea to a draw at Vicarage Road but lost the replay at Stamford Bridge 4-0. I think Chelsea have enough firepower in them to beat Watford.
Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Watford ( Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack)
