Quick Hits on Many Sports

Today I have a lot of different thoughts on a lot of different sports. So bare with me as I run through a few of them now.

First of all, let’s quickly touch on this whole Michael Phelps thing. Yes it wasn’t good what he did. He wasn’t smart, to say the least. But can we stop with the whole being so surprised and being so disappointed that the media is throwing at us? The media basically gave a pass to the President of the US when he admitted to doing Coke in his 20s. Why are we giving a swimmer such a hard time about pot?

Now back to real sports news.

The Lakers got a huge win over the Celtics on Thursday night. And they did it shorthanded and tired from a long east coast swing. Yeah, I know the Celtics didn’t have a full strength Garnett and he fouled out too. But this is still a huge win for LA and it shows that these aren’t the same Lakers as last year.

Moving on… It’s nice to see that the atrocious officiating in the Super Bowl is getting some play. It took a while but the media finally got around to one bad call. The last touchdown by the Steelers should’ve been flagged because Holmes used the ball as a prop. That would’ve given the Cards an extra 15 yards on the kickoff and it would’ve changed everything. But the officials blew that call like they blew about four other huge calls. Just ridiculous!

Finally, college football is in the news thanks to National Signing Day. As usual, the great teams remain at the top of the recruiting classes and the poor teams continue to get the scraps. But Tennessee’s Coach Kiffin is really starting to make himself look like an idiot. Nice comments about Urban Meyer. He better beat him this year or he might be out of Tennessee as fast as he was thrown out of Oakland.
