Game :Manchester City ( 10th-28 points) vs Middlesbrough ( 19th-22 points)
Competition : English Premiership
Venue : City of Manchester Stadium, Manchester
Date : 7 February 2009
Kickoff : 12.45 GMT
After failing to beat 10 man Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium, Manchester City will welcome relegation threatend Middlesbrough to Eastlands this weekend hoping for a win.
City were poor against Stoke, and could not even get a point from the game despite their opponents being reduced to 10 men for well over 50 minutes. Young defender Micah Richards was also arrested by the police in a case of assault, but is expected to play this game. Winger Shaun Wright Phillips will also play after appealing for more time to reply to a FA violent conduct charge. Goalkeeper Shay Given will make his debut for City in this game.
Manchester City form- last five games- all competitions
Stoke City 1-0 Man City
Man City 2-1 Newcastle ( Craig Bellamy, Shaun Wright Phillips)
Man City 1-0 Wigan ( Pablo Zabaleta)
Man City 0-3 Nottingham Forest- FA Cup
Blackburn 2-2 Man City ( Daniel Sturridge, Robinho)
City have won their last three league games at home- against Hull, Newcastle and Wigan.
Middlesbrough are in all kinds of trouble currently. The Teesiders are on a twelve game winless streak, and are just above bottom placed West Bromwich Albion on goal difference. Midfielder Stewart Downing has called for his team mates to halt their winless streak this weekend at Eastlands. Boro have scored ten goals against City in the last two meetings between these two sides, which included a 8-1 whacking of City at the Riverside.
Middlesbrough have scored only once in their last seven league games. That is a very worrying statistic for boss Gareth Southgate.
Middlesbrough form- last five games- all competitions
Middlesbrough 0-0 Blackburn Rovers
Chelsea 2-0 Middlesbrough
Wolves 1-2 M’Boro ( Marvin Emnes, Afonso Alves)
West Brom 3-0 M’Boro
Middlesbrough 1-1 Sunderland ( Afonso Alves)
Afonso Alves scored a hat trick when Middlesbrough thrashed Man City 8-1 last May, and he and Marlon King will look to get themselves on the scoresheet in this game.
I’ll take a 2-1 to Man City, which is at 18.000 at 10Bet. Craig Bellamy and Robinho to score, with Alves getting a consolation goal for Boro.
