NCAA: Early Favories for the Final Four
Posted on | February 4, 2009 | No Comments
It’s never too early to talk about the NCAA Tourney. Especially when football is done (don’t mention the Pro Bowl) and the NBA season is dragging on along with the NHL season. Pitchers and catchers for baseball won’t be reporting for another couple weeks either.
So, as February grows a little bit older, March isn’t too far away, right? So, let’s take a look at some teams who may very well make it to the Final Four.
The top favorites have to be the Connecticut Huskies, the Duke Blue Devils, and the North Carolina Tar Heels. I’d also put the Pittsburgh Panthers in that group.
In the next tier of teams I think the Oklahoma Sooners, the Louisville Cardinals, and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
But there are a few teams that just might get into the Final Four that are being overlooked right now.
Leading off that list is the Michigan State Spartans. Here is a team that has been in the Final Four before and they have a coach in Tom Izzo that always has his team ready to play.
Another team to watch is the Syracuse Orange. They started off the season on fire but have cooled off lately, thanks to a killer schedule and injuries. But if the Orange can get healthy then they will be dangerous in the tournament.
One more team to keep your eye on is the Xavier Musketeers. They’re coming out of the A-10 (not a powerhouse in college basketball) but they have what it takes to make a run in the tournament.
Of course, if I had to choose which 4 teams would be in the Final Four, I’d probably have to go with the favorites. We may very well see three teams from the Big East in the Final Four. It might be just a case of which four teams.
But at this time, I’d just have to go with UConn, Pitt, UNC, and Louisville as Final Four teams.
