Competition : English Premiership

Venue : Old Trafford,Manchester

Date : 31 January, 2009

Kickoff : 17.30 GMT

Manchester United will look to extend their great recent run when they take on David Moyes’ plucky Everton side at Old Trafford on Saturday evening.

With Liverpool and Chelsea both not playing until Sunday, United have a great chance to go five points clear at the top of the table. They thrashed West Bromwich Albion 5-0 in midweek, and it has been 1032 minutes since Edwin Van der Sar last had to pick the ball out of his own net. Wayne Rooney is still out, but with the likes of Berbatov, Ronaldo and Tevez available, United have no dearth of striking resources.

Manchester United form- last five games- all competitions ( United scorers in brackets)

West Bromwich Albion 0-5 Man United ( Dimitar Berbatov, Nemanja Vidic, Carlos Tevez, Cristiano Ronaldo*2)
Manchester United 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur ( Paul Scholes, Dimitar Berbatov)
Manchester United 4-2 Derby County ( Nani, John O’Shea, Carlos Tevez, Cristiano Ronaldo)
Bolton 0-1 Manchester United ( Dimitar Berbatov)
Manchester United 1-0 Wigan ( Wayne Rooney)

Everton have performed well despite their recent striker injury crisis, with Tim Cahill doing an excellent job as a makeshift forward. However Cahill and fellow midfielder Marouane Fellaini are both injury doubts for this clash, and should they not be present, Everton will prove more easier to beat for United. Phil Jagielka and Joleon Lescott have performed wonderfully well at the back for the Toffees, and they will be give a stern test by Ronaldo, Berbatov and co.

Everton form- last five games- all competitions- Everton scorers in brackets

Everton 1-1 Arsenal ( Tim Cahill)
Liverpool 1-1 Everton ( Joleon Lescott)
Liverpool 1-1 Everton ( Tim Cahill)
Everton 2-0 Hull City ( Marouane Fellaini, Mikel Arteta)
Macclesfield 0-1 Everton ( Leon Osman)

Everton are on a six game unbeaten streak away from Goodison Park. But one needs to remember that Chelsea, with their impressive away record, were outplayed 3-0 when they came to Old Trafford.

Everton drew with United when the two sides met at Goodison Park earlier this season. Only once since the inception of the Premier League have Everton managed to go without defeat in a season against United, and that was in 2004-05.

Verdict:- Everton have been playing great football recently, but I think United will prove to be too much for them.

Manchester United 2-0 Everton ( Dimitar Berbatov, Cristiano Ronaldo)
