NFL: Preview of Philadelphia at Arizona

Posted on | January 16, 2009 | No Comments

This will be the first game on Sunday. The most interesting part of the game, to me, is the 2 quarterbacks, Donovan McNabb and Kurt Warner.

Here are 2 quarterbacks that have been dominant at different points in their careers, and now both of their careers are beginning to wind down. This could be both of their last chances for a shot at glory. Of course, Warner has already succeeded when he won a Super Bowl with the St. Louis Rams, but Donovan has yet to win it all. However, Donovan has been to 4 NFC Championship Games and 1 Super Bowl.

If the game completely came down to the 2 quarterbacks then I would go with Warner. He’s been there before and he has more weapons, especially now with word that Anquan Boldin will indeed play. However, each quarterback has to face a defense and I think Donovan has a definite advantage here.

Plain and simple, the Eagles have a much better defense than the Cardinals. Or, at least they do on paper. But the Cards have been playing much better as of late.

Here’s how it’s probably going to break down… The folks in Arizona will go crazy for this game. I know, they aren’t the best fans and many of them probably aren’t “real” fans but often these are the people who make the most noise. They will be going crazy!

Arizona will be able to feed on this and Warner certainly won’t be overwhelmed by the situation.

But McNabb won’t be overwhelmed either. Neither will the Eagles defense. And for Philly to get another sniff of the Super Bowl, they will come out absolutely flying.

So, I do think the Cards will score some points, but I don’t think they will score enough points to win the game. I also think Warner, and his staying in the pocket might be a problem against the Eagles defense. However, quick passes can combat that.

But in the end, I like the Eagles by a score of something like 31-23.

My Pick: The Eagles
