Nottingham Forest v Plymouth Preview

It wasn’t so long ago that Nottingham Forest were in a terrible relegation mess, although the arrival of Billy Davies looks to have launched something of a revival and many people now feel as though Forest will stay up comfortably. Plymouth on the other hand are going the other way and having won just once in their last nine, the Pilgrims are slipping down the table and could be in a relegation mess themselves if they’re not careful.
Ever since Colin Calderwood departed a few weeks ago, Nottingham Forest have won all of their three games and that’s made a few supporters believe that they could even finish in a mid-table position. They’ve beaten Norwich, Manchester City and Charlton and with two of those sides in and around the bottom three – those results were absolutely massive. New manager Davies may take time to warm to fans following his spell with fierce rivals Derby, but there’s no doubting his credentials in this league and you can only imagine that Forest will push on and continue to rise up the table. Rob Earnshaw, a player who struggled for form and consistency after his big money move from Derby in the summer, is finally looking value for money and the Welshman will be hoping to add to his tally of three goals in his last three games in the upcoming weeks.
As for Plymouth, they were a side that a few people though would struggle this season and that could still be the case. After a good start to the seasons, standards are slipping at Home Park and the Pilgrims have won just once in their last nine games. They’re still seven points away from the relegation zone but with still half a season to go, they’ll know that gap needs to be improved quickly. Should they lose to Forest they’ll just be three points in front of them, meaning that this fixture is fairly important and they must make sure they pick up at least a point to stop the rot.
Having dispatched of Charlton fairly comfortably last week, Nottingham Forest are tipped to name an unchanged side for this one. There was an early doubt over Nathan Tyson after the striker was forced to be substituted last week, but all now seems well and he should be fit to play. Kelvin Wilson could recover from illness but whether or not he’ll force his way back into the reckoning is another matter. As for the visitors, Paul Sturrock will be without David McNamee who is out through suspension. Simon Walton returns from a ban but with the former Leeds man being on the transfer list, there’s no guarantee that he’ll return.
As for a prediction, we can only see a home win here. Forest are buzzing under the new management of Billy Davies and with Plymouth struggling, we can only see this as a victory for the City Ground side – 2-0.
