NFL: Looking toward the Divisional Playoffs

Posted on | January 6, 2009 | 1 Comment

As we move closer to the divisional playoffs on Saturday and Sunday, let’s take a quick look at the match-ups.

In the NFC we have the Arizona Cardinals visiting the Carolina Panthers and the Philadelphia Eagles visiting the New York Giants. In the AFC we have the Baltimore Ravens visiting the Tennessee Titans and the San Diego Chargers visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers.

All of these match-ups should be great. In fact, both match-ups in the AFC are very intriguing. However, the best match-up seems to be the Philadelphia Eagles visiting the New York Giants.

These two teams have battled it out twice this season and they have split in their games. Back in week 10 the Giants edged the Eagles in Philly by a score of 36-31. But the Eagles got their revenge in week 14 when they beat the Giants in New York by a score of 20-14.

Now, the Giants, who are the #1 seed in the NFC, have to be nervous. The Giants are playing their worst football of the season while the Eagles are playing their best football of the season. Kinda reminds me of last year’s divisional match-up. You know, the one where the Giants knocked off the Cowboys. The Wild Card Giants and the #1 seed Dallas Cowboys.

Remember the Cowboys came into that game after a bad December. The Giants came into that game on a bit of a roll.

Now it’s the Giants who won only one game in December and it’s the Eagles who are on a roll.

Anyway you slice it this game will be a war. And the game will probably come down to each defense.

It will be very interesting to see how Eli Manning will play. Though the media has turned him into a hero, I still don’t think he can carry the Giants to a playoff win without the defense and the running game carrying him.

But we will see…

We will see very soon.

The Giants have lost three of their last four games, and they are three weeks removed from their feel-good win over the Carolina Panthers. So I think there would be a very hard fight./ Cool widgets at statbeast.
