Game : Tottenham Hotspur ( PRM) vs Wigan Athletic (PRM)
Competition : English FA Cup
Venue : White Hart Lane, London
Date : Friday, January 2, 2009
Kickoff : 20.00 UK time
In Friday evening’s only FA Cup game, Steve Bruce takes his Wigan side to London to play Tottenham Hotspur in a third round game.
Spurs were beaten 2-0 by West Bromwich Albion in the Premiership last Sunday, a shocking result considering the form West Brom were in prior to the game. Spurs also had Benoit Assou Ekotto sent off, and the left back will serve the first of his four game suspension on Friday. Defender Ledley King will not be risked with his knee problems, while Jermaine Jenas is also out injured with a calf problem. Tom Huddlestone has an ankle injury, and Alan Hutton continues to remain a long term absentee.
Tottenham Hotspur form- last five games- most recent first ( goal scorers indicated in brackets)
West Bromwich Albion 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur 0-0 Fulham
Newcastle 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur ( Luka Modric)
Tottenham Hotspur 2-2 Spartak Moscow ( Luka Modric, Tom Huddlestone)
Tottenham Hotspur 0-0 Manchester United
Not a very pleasant run for Harry and his side- they have failed to win even one of their last five games.
Wigan have won five of their last six Premiership games, but Steve Bruce has an injury crisis on his hands, with both Amr Zaki and Emile Heskey ruled out for the Latics. Lee Cattermole is suspended, and regular keeper Chris Kirkland is suffering from a groin problem.
Wigan Athletic form- last five games all competitions ( most recent first)
Bolton 0-1 Wigan ( Amr Zaki)
Wigan 2-1 Newcastle ( Ryan Taylor, Amr Zaki)
Wigan 3-0 Blackburn ( Emile Heskey, Luis Valencia, Lee Cattermole)
Arsenal 1-0 Wigan Athletic
Wigan 2-1 Everton ( Henri Camara, Boyce)
Wigan and Everton have met seven times so far in all competitions, but the Latics have never managed to beat Spurs. Tottenham have won three, with four games ending in draws, including the last two between these sides.
Tottenham look a bit thin at the back, but I think they’ll get the result they want. Spurs to win 1-0, with Darren Bent scoring.
