NFL: The Playoffs are all Set

Well, here we are at the end of the NFL season and the playoff spots are all set.
From the AFC, in order from #1 to #6, the Titans, Steelers, Dolphins, Chargers, Colts, and Ravens are all in. In the NFC, once again in order, the Giants, Panthers, Vikings, Cardinals, Falcons, and Eagles are all in.
We’ll have plenty of time to talk about all of these teams as we move forward this week.
But the team that is missing, that is a huge surprise, is the Dallas Cowboys.
Now, I’m not going to sit here and accuse this team of quitting (even though it looked like they did quit). I’m also not going to sit here and say this team lacks heart (even though they seem like it).
But this team was absolutely embarrassed by the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. In a game that was a win and you’re in for both teams, Dallas failed to show up and they were embarrassed 46-6.
That was bad enough but the reactions by the players was even worse.
Terrell Owens was seen on the sideline smiling and laughing late in the game. (I remember Michael Irvin crying on the sidelines when Dallas lost a playoff game.)
Anthony Henry gave a little love tap to the helmet of Buckhalter after Buckhalter scored the 2nd TD to make it 17-3. No yelling or anger. Henry seemed genuinely happy for the Eagles runningback.
But it wasn’t only the players. Wade Phillips canceled Dallas’ year end meeting on Monday. I guess he didn’t care enough to meet with his team.
Am I wrong about any of these things? Could be. But it seems right.
The Cowboys team is talented – yes. But they aren’t nearly as talented as people thought. They aren’t as talented as they still think.
But the bigger problem is that this is a team divided right now. And there is no one and nothing holding these guys together.
And if there isn’t a change in the off season (hint, hint Jerry Jones: Fire the entire coaching staff!) this Dallas team will continue to fail and squander the talent they have on the team.
