This really is getting to be a mess and it’s great!

The playoff race is very heated and so is the race for homefield advantage and first round byes.

Here is what we do know: The Giants, Cardinals, Titans, and Steelers are all in the playoffs.

The Carolina Panthers are just about a lock too. As are the Denver Broncos.

In the AFC it’s pretty much set that the 1 and 2 seeds will be the Steelers and the Titans. But what order? Well, that will be decided this weekend when the two teams play each other.

In the NFC, the Panthers and the Giants currently own the best records. They will battle it out this Sunday in Giants Stadium for the #1 seed. Which ever team wins will get the bye and the #1 seed.

However, if the Giants lose then look out. Because if Minnesota wins this weekend, then the Giants have to go to Minnesota and play them for the #2 seed. Wouldn’t that be crazy if the Giants drop all the way down to the #3 seed and head into the playoffs on a 4 game losing streak? Talk about backing into the playoffs.

As for the rest of the playoff picture, it is truly a mess.

In the AFC it looks like the Colts will get a Wild Card spot. Right now the Ravens own the other Wild Card spot. However, they have a big game coming up this Saturday night against the Cowboys.

The other big race is for the AFC East. The Patriots, Jets, and Dolphins are all tied atop the division. The Dolphins and the Jets might just have a huge showdown the last day of the season. The winner would win the division. The Pats have to hope that the Dolphins and the Jets each lose at least once. Then if the Pats win out they will get the division.

In the NFC, the Giants have the East, the Vikings currently own the North, the Panthers have the South (so far), and the Cards have clinched the West. The Wild Cards currently belong to the Cowboys and the Falcons. However, the Bucs are right there and so are the Eagles. The last day of the season may very well see the Eagles and the Cowboys battling for a Wild Card spot in Philadelphia.
