After stunning Tottenham Hotspur last week, David Moyes’ Everton face Martin O’Neill’s Aston Villa in a crucial game for both games at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon. The Toffees paid a huge price for their win over Spurs, with Yakubu ruled out for the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles.

With Yakubu, Louis Saha and James Vaughan out, Moyes has Victor Anichebe as his sole striking option. Steven Pienaar, who scored against Tottenham, seems to have recovered from his knee problem, but defenders Nuno Valente and Tony Hibbert remain sidelined.

Aston Villa made wholesale changes to the squad that drew 0-0 against Fulham last week, and were shocked by Slovakian minnows MSK Zilina in the UEFA Cup on Thursday. However the result did not affect their qualification chances, as Hamburg overcame Slavia Prague in the other fixture. Villa need to win games to break into the top four, but without John Carew, they look a little short of attacking firepower. Against Fulham, they depended way too much on Ashley Young’s crosses to create an opening, and could not find their way past Roy Hodgson’s men.
