Game : Newcastle United ( 17th- 15 points) vs Stoke City ( 14th- 18 points)

Competition : English Premier League

Venue : St. James Park, Newcastle, England

Kickoff : 15.00 GMT

Date : Saturday, 6 December, 2008

Relegation threatened Newcastle United will be desperately looking for three points when they host Stoke City at St.James Park on Saturday afternoon.

Newcastle were clearly second best to Middlesbrough last week, and would have lost the game had Boro striker Afonso Alves not been so profligate in front of goal. But the draw, coupled with Sunderland’s humiliation at the hands of Bolton at the Stadium of Light, meant that Newcastle were out of the bottom three on goal difference. And because Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers are facing tough opposition in Manchester United and Liverpool respectively, Newcastle might not slip into the bottom three if they lose to Stoke.

Newcastle United- last five games form – all competitions ( scorers in brackets)

Middlesbrough 0-0 Newcastle
Chelsea 0-0 Newcastle
Newcastle 2-2 Wigan ( Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins)
Fulham 2-1 Newcastle ( Shola Amoebi)
Newcastle 2-0 Aston Villa ( Obafemi Martins*2)

Last five games at home- Newcastle

Newcastle 2-2 Wigan ( Michael Owen, Obafemi Martins)
Newcastle 2-0 Aston Villa ( Obafemi Martins*2)
Newcastle 2-1 West Bromwich Albion ( Joey Barton, Obafemi Martins)
Newcastle 2-2 Man City ( Shola Amoebi)
Newcastle 1-2 Blackburn ( Michael Owen)

At 10Bet, Martins is at 5.550 to score first in the game.

Stoke lost their midweek Carling Cup quarterfinal to Derby County, a loss which would have definitely rankled the players. Surprisingly, the Potters sit three points above Newcastle going into this game. They have the worst goal difference in the seventeen teams outside the bottom three. Stoke have never won away from the Britannia stadium this season, drawing two and losing five.

Stoke City- last five games- all competitions

Stoke 0-1 Derby County
Stoke 1-1 Hull City ( Ricardo Fuller)
Stoke 1-0 West Brom ( Mamady Sidibe)
Man Utd 5-0 Stoke
Stoke 2-0 Rotherham ( Whelan, Pugh)

Stoke City- last five away games

Man Utd 5-0 Stoke
Wigan 0-0 Stoke
Man City 3-0 Stoke
Portsmouth 2-1 Stoke ( Ricardo Fuller)
Liverpool 0-0 Stoke

Stoke last played Newcastle in the FA Cup in January 2008. They lost 4-1 in the replay at St.James Park. Owen, Cacapa, James Milner and Damien Duff were the scorers for the Magpies then.

I’ll go for a 3-2 to Newcastle, with Gutierrez, Martins and Owen scoring for them. Fuller and Sidibe to score for Stoke.
