NFL: Thoughts after Sunday

Well, after Week 13 games, the playoff picture in the NFC is as cloudy as ever.
The Washington Redskins hurt their chances by losing to the New York Giants, but the Falcons, the Bucs, the Panthers, and the Cowboys all won. All of these teams are at least 8-4 right now. One (except the Cowboys) will win the NFC South, and two others will take the Wild Card. That’s assuming the Redskins, Eagles, or another team doesn’t win out and sneak in.
Basically the NFC is probably looking at a 10-6 team not making the playoffs, and they might be looking at an 11-5 team going home.
This would be huge. Especially when you consider that the defending Super Bowl champs were only 10-6 last year. What if they had missed out on the playoffs?
Moving on… As always, the New York Giants looked really impressive AGAIN. They dominated an emotional Washington Redskins team. And they did it without Plaxico Burress. But they might as well get used to playing without him because it looks like he’s done for the season after giving himseld a non-life threatening gun shot wound to the leg. (Burress had a loaded concealed weapon in a nightclub and that is a felony in New York.)
Sunday also showed us that the Denver Broncos are the heavy favorites to win the AFC West. They beat the red-hot New York Jets. Now they are in complete control as they are 7-5 and the nearest team (the San Diego Chargers) are only 4-8. The Broncos can clinch next week.
Finally, we also learned that the New England Patriots aren’t that good. They were crushed by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Matt Cassell looked horrible against an awesome Pittsburgh Steelers defense. And the usually mediocre Steelers offense looked really good against the old and slow Pats defense. The Pats will get Brady back eventually but they need to overhaul their entire defense if they hope to compete for a Super Bowl in the next few years.
