Blackpool v Sheffield Wednesday Preview

These two sides sit right next to each other in the table and with both being tipped as possible relegation candidates, this game is pretty big. Both were performing quite well a few weeks ago but recent form has hit them hard and they now lie a little too close to comfort to the relegation zone.
Blackpool are a side who usually draw the plaudits, with Simon Grayson putting together a Championship side on a shoestring budget. However, recent results have been poor with the Seasiders losing all of their last three games. Those results now mean they’ve slipped into 18th position, just five points away from the drop zone, so things need to improve as we head into the festive schedule. At the start of the month they managed to beat Watford 4-3 after finding themselves behind and many thought that could be the start of something special at Bloomfield Road. Instead, it’s had the reverse effect and with Grayson’s men being tipped as relegation favorites at the start of the season, he’ll need to turn things around to prove the bookies wrong.
Sheffield Wednesday aren’t in a much better position and currently find themselves in 17th place. The Owls had a brilliant start to the season but have been woeful over the last month or two and that has cast questions over whether or not Brian Laws’ contract will be renewed in the summer. Wednesday’s home form was one of the key factors behind their early success but even that looks to have deserted them, with defeats to Plymouth and Coventry in recent weeks blotting their record. With games against Blackpool and Norwich, two sides who sit below them in the table, coming up, there’s no doubt that the next few weeks are vitally important for Wednesday and perhaps even more so for Brian Laws and his future.
As for team news, Simon Grayson is not afraid of making changes and he may make a few after seeing his side lose three straight games. David Vaughan and Danny Coid have both been struggling in recent weeks although have a chance of playing in this one as long as they pass late fitness tests. As for Sheffield Wednesday, there’s very little to report for them with the Owls having absolutely no new concerns. Just like Grayson, Brian Laws may decide to ring the changes following poor form, but there’s none that have been forced upon him which makes a change from a few weeks ago when their squad was down to its bare bones.
Simon Grayson is a good manager and we can’t see the Seasiders losing four straight games. That being said, Wednesday will be up for this as well so this is another game that has draw written all over it in our eyes. 1-1.
