Bordeaux vs Chelsea preview

Posted on | November 25, 2008 | No Comments

Game : Bordeaux ( Fra) vs Chelsea ( Eng)

Competition : UEFA Champions League Group A

Venue : Stade Chaban Delmas, Bordeaux, Franc

Date : Wednesday, November 26, 2008

Time : 19.45 GMT

The tightest Group in the Champions League this season, Group A, will become a little more clearer after Matchday 5. Only three points separate Group leaders Chelsea from 4th placed CFR Cluj, which is why Bordeaux vs Chelsea becomes a very interesting match indeed.

Bordeaux were hammered 4-0 by Chelsea when they travelled to the Bridge, and Laurent Blanc’s side will be looking for revenge on Wednesday. After losing their first two group games, Bordeaux bounced back to win their next two against CFR Cluj, and a win here will give them an excellent chance of making it to the next stage.

Some Bordeaux stats :-

Last five games ( all competitions) ( Scorers for Bordeaux listed in brackets)

Bordeaux 4-2 Guingamp – French Cup ( Benoit Tremoulinas, Gabriel Obertan*2, Fernando Cavenaghi)
Cluj 1-2 Bordeaux ( Yohann Gourcuff, Wendel)
Bordeaux 2-0 Auxerre ( Fernando Cavenaghi, Marouane Chamakh)
Lyon 2-1 Bordeaux ( Fernando Cavenaghi)
Bordeaux 1-1 Rennes ( Yohann Gourcuff)

Bordeaux have scored four goals in the Champions League this season ( One own goal by Cluj player, Yohann Gourcuff*2, Wendel*1)

Odds for Bordeaux player to score anytime during the game at 10BET

Gourcuff- 4.550
Cavenaghi-3.100
Wendel-4.550
Chamakh-3.800
Bellion-3.650

Chelsea’s loss to an under performing Roma at Stadio Olimpico on November 4 has thrown this group wide open. The Blues could surrender their lead at the top should they draw or lose to Bordeaux and Roma win against Cluj. Midfielder Deco is suspended, but Scolari will play both Didier Drogba and Michael Ballack in the first eleven.

Last five Chelsea fixtures ( All competitions) ( Chelsea scorers indicated in brackets)

AS Roma 3-1 Chelsea ( John Terry)
Blackburn 0-2 Chelsea ( Nicolas Anelka*2)
Chelsea 1-1 Burnley- Carling Cup ( Didier Drogba)
West Brom 0-3 Chelsea ( Jose Bosingwa, Nicolas Anelka*2)
Chelsea 0-0 Newcastle

Last five games away ( All competitions)

At 10Bet, Drogba is quoted at 4.850 to get the first goal of the game. Nicolas Anelka is quoted at 5.550 for the same.

Bordeaux have a poor record at home against English opposition. They have one draw and two losses to their name. Against English opposition in Europe ( both home and away), Bordeaux have never won a game, conceding thirteen and scoring one.

I think Chelsea will win this 2-1, with Anelka, Lampard and Bellion scoring.
