NFL: Time to Face the Facts
Posted on | November 10, 2008 | No Comments
Rising above everything else that I learned watching the Sunday game for Week 10 in the NFL are two facts: the Titans and the Giants are really good and they are clearly the two best teams in the NFL.
Yes, I’ve had them both at the top of my Super Seven rankings for a few weeks now. But I’ll be the first to admit that I haven’t been sold on either team. Well, it’s time for me to face the facts.
The Giants won again on Sunday night, this time against a Philadelphia team in Philly. That’s not an easy place to win. And while the Giants didn’t “wow” me with their play, they won again. They just keep winning. And that makes them the best team in the NFL.
The Giants have a great defense (really a great pass rush) and they have a great running game. I’m still not a big Eli Manning fan but he doesn’t even have to be good. He just has to manage the game and make a couple big throws every game. The Giants stud runningbacks and their defense will do the rest, as they’ve proven the last few weeks.
Now, I know there will be Titans fans who think they are the best team in the NFL, and maybe they are. But the Titans wouldn’t beat the Giants on a neutral field right now. They just wouldn’t. At least not the way I see things.
Imagine that game though? Lots of running, lots of defense, and very little excitement. But I do think the Giants would be able to move the ball better on the Titans than the Titans would be able to move the ball on the Giants.
But the Titans are undefeated. After 10 weeks (nine game) that isn’t an easy feat. So I’ll think about putting the Titans over the Giants this week. But what does it matter at this point? The Giants are the best in the NFC and the Titans are the best in the AFC… at least right now… and right now that’s all that matters.
