NFL: Titans and Giants Rolling, Media Stumbling

It’s obvious at this point – midway through the NFL season – that there is a clear favorite in the AFC and a clear favorite in the NFC. The undefeated Tennessee Titans are tops in the AFC while the New York Giants are the best team in the NFC. But this is now, not January. Things can change.
The Titans showed what they’re made of once again as they beat the Green Bay Packers in overtime on Sunday. The Titans didn’t lool unbeatable though. I mean, the Packers have bene handled easily a couple times this season and certainly the Titans had their hands full for this game. But the Titans made the plays when they had to make the plays. They won the game in OT and they are undefeated.
The Giants handled the Cowboys easily to move to 7-1 and place themselves firmly atop the NFC East. Eli Manning three for 3 touchdowns and the Giants rushed for over 200 yards. The media has proclaimed the game a true beating and annointed the Giants the best team and the Cowboys one of the worst teams.
I have no problem with the Giants being called one of the best teams in the NFL. In fact, as you’ll see in a couple days, I think they are the best team in the NFL right now. If they play the Titans they win.
But for the media to say Dallas is done and to say how horrible they are, is ridiculous. In fact, it shows that they are either ignorant or dishonest. Probably a lot of both.
The Cowboys have too many key players missing to be that good. They’re missing their best player overall – Tony Romo – who also happens to be their QB. They’re missing their best o-lineman, Kyle Kosier. They’re missing two of their best special teamers, Felix Jones and Matt McBriar. And Jones is also one of their biggest offensive weapons. They’re also missing their best DB, Terrance Newman. A starting safety, Roy Williams. They’ve been without one of the best pass rushers most of the season, Anthony Spencer. And against the Giants they were playing with their other starting corner, Anthony Henry, hobbled, and their All-Pro tightend too hurt to be effective with cracked ribs.
Wow. The media knows this and they media knows that no team could suffer these losses and still be any good. And then heap onto that the Dallas backup QBs handing the Giants 21 points. And despite all the injuries, Dallas was right them.
So, while the stock for the Titans and the Giants continues to rise, the media once again shows themselves to be a bunch of bumbling talking heads.
