NFL: Surprises at the Halfway Point

Posted on | October 29, 2008 | No Comments

We are about at the halfway point of the season for many of the team in the NFL, while other teams are at the halfway point. So now would be a good time to look at some surprising teams so far this season.

The Tennessee Titans

Most people thought these guys would be good, but did anyone really think they’d be this good? I mean, undefeated good?

I sure didn’t and most other people didn’t either… including their own fans.

Indianapolis Colts

Now to look at the other end of the spectrum. All teams eventually get old and drop off with their play. But rarely is it this dramatic.

The Colts have a horrible defense and their offense has sun down to the ordinary level. They just don’t scare anyone anymore.

Washington Redskins

The Redskins lose Joe Gibbs and things looked bleak with Jim Zorn who has no coordinator experience lay aside head coaching experience. Yet, the Skins have performed great so far this season. Yes, they are inconsistent but you can’t argue with a 6-2 record.

But the Skins will be tested this Monday night against the Steelers. Then they have a bye, and then they’ll host Dallas the next week. Two more wins in the next three weeks will put the Skins firmly in line for a playoff spot.

Miami Dolphins

It’s tough to figure this team out. One week they’ll beat a good team and then the next week they’ll lose to a bad team.

One thing that’s for sure is that this team is vastly improved from last year’s team. In fact, they are better than anyone thought they’d be.

San Diego Chargers

Last year’s AFC runner-ups are looking bad right now. They have no defense and their offense is too streaky.

Yet they play in the AFC West so they still have a great chance of winning the division. However, if the Broncos can get their act together then the Chargers will miss the playoffs. And that would be a huge surprise.
