Bristol City v Sheffield United Preview

Both of these sides hold play off aspirations and considering the fact they’re sat in 5th and 6th position, the season seems to be shaping up quite well for them. City are trying to go one step further than their play off final defeat last season, while Kevin Blackwell’s Sheffield United are attempting to hit the Premier League for the third time in their history.
After being held to a 0-0 draw by Barnsley at the weekend, City dropped two places and now only sit in the top six due to goal difference. However, despite only drawing against a side lingering near the relegation zone, Gary Johnson couldn’t hide his delight afterwards as it was clear that his side had got out of jail in the second half. Statistics showed that the Robins didn’t record one single shot on goal throughout the game, while Barnsley had seven. That game perhaps shows just how good a side City are becoming, with pundits always claiming that if you can get any sort of point while playing badly you’ve done a good job. They managed to keep their sixth clean sheet of the season at Oakwell and there’s no doubt that Johnson will be very pleased with the current situation at this stage of the season.
Sheffield United are just sat one place above the home side and will be hoping to build on their narrow 1-0 win over Preston. That result came after a defeat to bitter rivals Sheffield Wednesday and only a draw to Southampton, although Kevin Blackwell has maintained the stance that he feels his side are playing well at the moment. It was only at the start of the month that they romped past Bristol City in a 3-0 win and with only one point separating the sides; they’ll be desperate to repeat that score line.
In terms of team news, Bristol City have a few worries following their draw at the weekend. Jamie McAllister looks set to be out for a few weeks after coming off against Barnsley with a foot injury, while Louis Carey is still out and will see a specialist about his injury later this week. However, Gary Johnson will welcome back Bradley Orr after his suspension, although he’ll have to force his way past Brian Wilson who impressed at Oakwell. As for Sheffield United, there’s not much to report. Kevin Blackwell has no new concerns and could welcome back Gary Speed and Gary Naysmith who have been struggling with fitness.
Considering their lofty position, it would be fair to say that City have been a little inconsistent at home this term. However, it’s the same story for Sheffield United away and having not recorded many convincing results of late, we’ll have to go for the home win. 2-0 Robins.
