MLB: Phillies Jump Out Ahead

What a huge win for the Philadelphia Phillies in Game One of the World Series. They came into the series after having abour a week off. That almost always spells doom for that team.
As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog, I didn’t think the Phillies would manage more than two runs against the Rays because of the time they had off. Well, I was a run off. And the reason the Phillies were able to score the 3 runs is bacause Kazmir gave-up a walk to the second batter of the game. Then Chase Utley stepped up to the plate and hit a two-run homer.
The Phillies would only manage one more run for the rest of the game. But the Rays were only able to puch two runs across the plate against Cole Hamels.
Of course that gave the Phillies the 3-2 win and the series lead at one game to none.
So where does that leave us as we look forward to Game Two?
Well, the Phillies have already done what they had to do. They took one game in Tampa. Now they know they will definately get to play all three games at home. But that can’t be content.
They just have to look at what happened to the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS. The Red Sox tooko Game One and then lost games two, three, and four. They then lost the series in six.
So, the Phillies really need to concentrate on winning the next game too. And, of course, it’s very important for the Rays to win Game Two. They don’t want to have to win two out of three in Philadelphia just to get the series back to Tampa.
So the showdown is set for Game Two. It will be James Sheilds for the Rays going against Brett Myers for the Phillies. Myers has proven to be a much better pitcher at home so this pitching match-up favors the Rays.
We’ll have to wait and see how it all plays out…
