MLB: Phillies Celebrate, Rays Wait

Well, Joe Torre and Manny Ramirez and the rest of the Los Angeles Dodgers are done for the year. Their magical season came to a crashign halt on Wednesday night when the Phillies dusted them off 4 games to 1.
Game Five was a microcosm of the rest of the series. It wasn’t even close.
Cole Hamel proved once again that he is the most dominant pitcher in this year playoffs. He made one mistake, which Manny hit over the wall, and that’s it. He was simply too good as he vaulted the Phillies to a 5-1 victory in Los Angeles.
So now the Phillies will go back to Philly and await the winner of the Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox series. Of course the Rays lead that series 3 games to 1. And Game Five will be played in Fenway on Thursday night.
It will be Dice K going against Scott Kazmir. Normally this would be a great match-up, but I don’t know that Kazmir is 100% right. Therefore, I have to give the edge to Dice-K and the Red Sox. Plus, I just think the Red Sox will put up a huge fight before they’re sent home. But sent home is what will happen to them.
The Rays are just that much better than the Red Sox. Sure, it will take six games to send the Red Sox down in defeat, but I have no doubt that it will happen.
Yes, I know the Red Sox have a history of coming back from big deficits. Yup, they were down 3 games to 1 to the Cleveland Indians last year. But that wasn’t these Red Sox in this situation.
First of all, last year the Sox has homefield advantage. So once they won Game Five, they then went back home for the last two games. That’s huge. And it won’t happen this time. The Rays get the last two games (if necessary) in their own park.
Plus, the major players in that series aren’t around. Manny is gone. Beckett is nicked and only a shadow of himself. Ortiz is dinged and doing nothing. Ellsbury is in a slump. The list goes on and on. And it all adds up to defeat for the Red Sox, just not in Game Five.
