England vs Andorra

Posted on | September 1, 2006 | No Comments

Steve McClaren’s first go as manager at the Euro 2008 qualifier comes near as England face Andorra at Old Trafford on Saturday at 1700BST. England is placed in Group E along with major teams accompanying them being only Croatia and Russia. The team which stands currently at the 132nd spot in the Fifa world rankings won’t scare them one bit.

England will be without their star defender Rio Ferdinand who is now ruled out as he failed to recover from the Toe injury he picked up in the match against Watford in the premier league. Jamie Carragher, Sol Cambell and Gary Neville are also unavailable for the match. This leaves England’s defensive line with a big worry. It also gives McClaren an opportunity to give a chance to the likes of Phil Neville and Wes Brown who has always looked promising in the centre of defense for united all of last season. Joe Cole is also out with a long term injury. Wayne Rooney is also suspended for 2 games following his sending off at the world cup.

England are ofcourse the favorites to take all three points in this qualifier, the only thing we don’t know is my how many goals depending on which England team shows up. The world cup England team would make a tough battle out of this easy encounter and would knick it 1-0, but a fluent English team with the players they have play to their potential then they will surely embarrass Andorra. The England defense doesn’t look that promising so i am going for Andorra to score 1, but England to win by atleast a 3 goal margin.

The best odds that I could dig up for this match is if England start slow as i expect them to you can look at a 1st Half draw and 2nd Half England win at 6.50. I am also placing my dollar on Terry to score first and England to win 3-1 at 101.00, a long shot but you don’t get odds of 1:100 easily! Other bets on England will hardly give you odds of 1.02 max so i don’t see the point putting your money there.
