MLB: Championship Series are all Set
Posted on | October 7, 2008 | No Comments
A couple days ago the National League decided their Championship Series. The Los Angeles Dodgers finished off the Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies dusted off the Milwaukee Brewers. That set-up an NLCS showdown that will kickoff in Philadelphia on Thursday.
But after things in the National League were decided, the American League still had to decide their series and they both had a Game Four to play. Of course, the Boston Red Sox were up two games to one against the Anaheim Angels and the Tampa Bay Rays were up by the same margin against the Chicago White Sox.
And on Monday both the Red Sox and the Rays took care of business. That sets up a showdown in the ALCS between two AL East foes. The first game of the ALCS will be played on Friday in Tampa.
What this means, of course, is that two of the best teams in baseball all year are all done – the Cubs and the Angels.
What a shame. For 162 games these two clubs played great ball and earned the first playoff spot in each of their own leagues. And for what? Just to lose in the divisional round of the playoffs? Seems like a total shame. And it is.
So excuse the fans of each of these teams for being nearly suicidal over what has happened over the past few days. They watched their teams play great all year and they got their hopes up that they would at least make it to the World Series, only to have their hopes and dreams dashed.
But excuse Cubs fan for not having any pity for Angels fan. The Angels just won the World Series a few years back and the Cubs, of course, are in a 100 years and counting drought.
So let’s forget about the losers and now it’s time to focus on the teams still remaining… all four of them: the Rays, Red Sox, Dodgers, and Phillies.
