Five weeks down and just twelve more to go before the end of the season.

And this season is absolutely impossible to figure out… so far.

Are the Skins for real? Are the Pats a playoff team? Are the Cowboys still one of the best teams in the NFL? Are the Dolphins really that much improved? Will the Colts make it into the playoffs? Are the Chargers this bad? What about the Bills? Are they good or just average? And what about the Cardinals, and the Broncos, and the Eagles?

There are all of these questions and so much more. The simple is: Who knows? It’s probably going to take an entire season to find all the answers.

But let’s start by looking a the power shift that is happening in the AFC.

At the beginning of the year, the three best teams (supposedly) were the New England Patriots, the San Diego Chargers, and the Indianapolis Colts. But now the Pats are without Brady and they’re struggling just to beat the 49ers and they lost to the Dolphins. Speaking of the Dolphins, they just beat the Chargers. And the Colts? Well, they should’ve lost to the winless Houston Texans. If not for Sage Rosenfels turning the ball over three times in the last four minutes, the Colts would’ve lost.

So the best teams in the AFC please step forward. It looks to be the Steelers, the Titans, and the Broncos. But none of those teams are perfect. In fact, they’re far from it.

And then over in the NFC, we know the Giants are good – they’re the Superbowl champs and they are the only undefeated team in the conference. The Skins have to be right up there too. But then it’s a bit of a mess. I’d still put Dallas next, but then what?

The Packers look horrible (How’s the whole Brett Favre saga look now?). The Bucs are very beatable. The Eagles are already 0-2 in the NFC East and they’re only 2-3 overall. And the Seahawks just got pummeled by the Giants. I mean absolutely blown off the field.

So there is very little that we know right now. But that’s what makes the NFL so much fun.
