MLB: Cubs are Done
It’s 100 years and counting.
The Chicago Cubs once again ends this season as a non-World Champion. And that means the Chicago fans will be in for a long off season and a long season next year too. Because even if the Cubs win 120 games during the regular seaon then the fans will still be holding their breath until the post-season.
You see, the fans looked absolutely fit-to-be-tied from the very first pitch of the series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. And as soon as the Dodgers got the lead, then the fans looked absolutely devastated. What kind of an environment is that to play in?
But does that mean I’m completely blaming the collapse on the fans? No. In fact, there is plenty of blame to go around. The players are to blame, and so is Manager Lou Pinella.
I expected a lot more out of Lou Pinella. Sure, he had a huge job ahead of him but he’s smart enough to know what he was up against. One would think that he would have planned accordingly. But I’m sure he did try to do something to make the Cubs’ players be insulated from everyone else. It just didn’t work.
In fact, it was an absolute failure. As was the game on Saturday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The entire season was on the line and yet all the Cubs could manage was one run? One puny run? That’s it? 100 years on the line and just 1 run. It doesn’t quite add up, does it.
You know who the Cubs need don’t you?
Manny Ramirez. I’m serious. They need Manny and a couple proven veteran winners long with Manny.
Manny will keep the clubhouse happy even when the pressure mounts and the veterans will show everyone else how to win.
The bottomline is this: The Cubs and their fans take everything much too seriously. You can’t blame them for that but you do have to acknowledge that they will never win as long as they continue to take everything so seriously.

Well the Cubs proved once again that their off season free agent acquisitions won’t secure them a playoff series win. They had a lot of talent on that team but they ran into a very hot Dodgers team. The Cubs simply ran out of gas and were no match for a hot LA ball club. I feel sorry for all Cubs fans as they have to wait one more long season.
