MLB: The Playoffs Under Way

Three of the four playoff series began on Wednesday and on Thursday the fourth one, the Tampa Bay Rays hosting the Chicago White Sox, will open up.
The winners from Wednesday were the Boston Red Sox, the Philadelphia Phillies, and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
That’s right! No Chicago Cubs in that list of winners.
The Cubs got clobbered by the Los Angeles Dodgers in Wrigley Field. Manny Ramirex hit one of the most unbelievable homers I’ve ever seen. He took a curveball that was going to bounce to the plate and he hit it a mile. That one swing summed up the game.
And now the Cubs have to win three of four fro the Dodgers. Can they do that? Of course they can, but will they? It doesn’t look very good right now.
When I predicted that the Cubs would win this series in four, I said they’d do that despite thei fans. And boy is that right. The Cubs fans came into Wrigley looking and sounding nervous instead of being excited and getting their club pumped. Now they have to win today or the series will be pretty much over.
Speaking of over. The best team in baseball, the Anaheim Angels, are in a 1-0 hole too. The Red Sox showed why they are still the defending champs. And now they have a chance to win this series at home. With Josh Beckett throwing in Game Three, the Angels better win Game Two or they will get swept.
Finally, the Phillies took care of the Brewers on Wednesday. They did what they had to do and they got great pitching from Cole Hammels. Believe it or not, the Brewers were the only home team to win on Wednesday.
So much for playing well all season to get home field advantage. It was lost quickly by two of the teams in the playoffs, and with the series only being 5 games, losing that first game is huge.
