MLB: Where Things Stand

As this crazy weekend starts out… the weekend that will decide who goes to the playoffs and who goes home… let’s take a step back and consider where everything is at.
The Tampa Bay Rays lost to the Detroit Tigers last night but they still won the American League East. That’s because the New York Yankees beat-up on the Boston Red Sox.
So we now know that the Rays are the AL East champ, the Anaheim Angels are the AL West champs, the Red Sox will win the Wild Card.
Still up in the air is the AL Central. The Minnesota Twins still lead the Chicago White Sox by a half game. The Twins lost to the Kansas City Royals last night but the White Sox lost to the Cleveland Indians. So nothing has changed. This race is still razor tight.
Over in the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers have won the NL West and the Chicago Cubs have won the NL Central.
The NL Wild Card and the NL East are still up up in the air.
The Philadelphia Phillies look poised to win the NL East. Their magic number is one. So it looks like they’ll clinch the NL East without too much of a problem.
In the Wild Card, the Milwaukee Brewers won last night but the New York Mets lost. So the Brewers now lead the Wild Card by a game. It’s beginning to look like the Mets will fade again. And New York will not have a representative in the playoffs for the first time in a very long time.
It will be very interesting to see what happens with the New York Mets when they collapse again. And it’ll be interesting to see who ends-up being the manager of the Mets. But something tells me it doesn’t matter who is the manager. The Mets obviously have some players who are chokers.
But before any changes are made with the Mets, we still have an exciting MLB season to finish and then the playoffs to go. So hold on…
