The Colorado Rockies will continue their road trip on Tuesday night, as they travel to Milwaukee to take on the Milwaukee Brewers in a three game series.  Both teams are for all practical purposes out of the race within their division, yet they both have a chance to make it to the playoffs as a wildcard team.  The Rockies are currently fourth in the NL West, and are sub-.500, yet in the NL Wildcard, they are only three games back.  The Brewers are in worse shape in their division, seven games back, but they are also a mere four games back in the wildcard.  With a little less than a month and a half left in the season, there is still plenty of time left to make up these gaps, yet every game is just that much more crucial as you head towards the end of the season.  It has been years for both franchises since they have made the playoffs, but both teams remain young and have promising futures should they not make the playoffs in 2006.

In game one, Aaron Cook will take the mound for the Rockies against Chris Capuano for the Brewers.  Cook is 8-11 on the year, with a 4.09 ERA, and is coming off an absolutely horrific start, in which he gave up nine runs and eleven hits.  Capuano is 10-8, and has a 3.68 ERA, but has not won since the All Star break, and has been the victim of the long ball in his last few starts.  Josh Fogg and Ben Sheets are the starters for game two in Milwaukee.  Fogg is 9-7 on the year, with a high 4.62 ERA, and has pitched relatively well for the Rockies this year.  His one problem has been consistency, which came to point in his last start, where he had a lights out first three innings, but then let up three runs in the fourth, and left the bases loaded before he was yanked.  Sheets has been a major disappointment for the Brewers this year, as the expected ace was hit hard with injuries, pitching only in nine games so far, and having an ERA of over five, along with his 3-5 record.  Neither team has announced their starting pitchers for the finale on Thursday afternoon.

Analysis:  The Rockies and the Brewers will both most likely miss the playoffs in 2006, but this series should serve as a good learning experience for both team’s rosters of young up and coming players.  The matchup on the mound is very evenly matched, but neither team is exactly known for their pitching.  Look for the Brewers to win two of three in a very closely contested three game series.
