MLB: Twins Getting Closer

Give round one to the Minnesota Twins.
In the very important three game series between the Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox, the Minnesota Twins looked impressive as they won 9-3.
The Twins entered Tuesday’s play two and a half games behind the Chicago White Sox in the American League Central. Now they are just a game and a half back. If the Twins win tonight things will get very uncomfortable for the White Sox.
That first game really was the most important of the series. If the White Sox won it then they would’ve moved to three and a half games up and they’d pretty much be out of reach for the Twins. The rest of the series would’ve been pretty much meaningless. The Minnesota crowd – and their white rags – would’ve been taken right out of it.
But with the Twins winning, the White Sox not lead by a slim game and a half and the crowd is firmly in it. They know that if the Twins win tonight then tomorrow night’s game will be for the division lead.
Meanwhile, over in the National League, the Mets, Phillies, and Brewers all won. So that means the Phillies are still atop in the NL East by a game and a half and then Mets still lead the Wild Card by a game. So this will come down to the end.
And last night the Yankees were officially eliminated from the Wild Card after getting eliminated by the Rays in the division the night before. The Rays and Red Sox each won, so the magic number for Tampa Bay is now just 2 games. Barring a stunning collapse by the Rays coupled with a hot streak by the Red Sox, the Rays will cllinch very soon. This is a near certainty especially with the Rays finishing the seaspon against th Detroit Tigers – the most disappointing team in the Majors and a bunch of quiters (the Tigers are now in last place in the AL Central).
