NFL: What We Learned in Week 3
Posted on | September 23, 2008 | No Comments
Now it starts to mean a lot more.
Let’s face it, the first two weeks aren’t always an indicator for how the rest of the season might go. Some things that happen in the first two weeks will continue to play out for the entire season but other thins won’t happen much past the first two weeks.
But now that we’re done with the first three weeks and heading into the fourth week of the season, some trends are starting to play out. Here are just a few:
The NFC East is the Beast
I wrote about this yesterday so I don’t need to write about it again. But it’s so true. I would go so far as to say that the Cowboys, Eagles, and Giants are the three best teams in the NFL.
The Jets are Bad
Let’s face it, Brett Favre is a good quarterback (he once was great) but he won’t be enough to save this team. This is beginning to look more and more like the final year or so of Emmitt Smith, Johnny Unitas, or Joe Namath.
If the Jets win more than 7 games this year I’ll be shocked.
Cassell is Not that Good
Matt Cassell is not that good and neither are the New England Patriots.
But before anyone blames that Miami debacle on Cassell, they need to take a long look at the way the defense played. There were worse than Cassell.
Now, it was just one loss and you know Belicheat will do all he can to win games (except cheat, of course). But I still don’t think New England will win more than 9 games this year.
The AFC is Wide Open
Because the Pats are suddenly majorly crippled and for many other reasons, the AFC is now wide open. Right now it looks like the Tenessee Titans, the Denver Broncos, and the Buffalo Bills are the three best teams in the AFC. This could change (and probably will) but right now, those are the teams to beat and the AFC is any team‘s conference to win.
