No longer can anyone doubt the Tampa Bay Rays. Not this year. Not this team.

Because the Rays have clinched a playoff berth. They have gone from having the worst record in baseball last year to having one of the best records this year. And they have led the AL East more days this year than they led it all their others years combined.

On Saturday night the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Minnesota Twins and the celebration was one. Evan Longoria caught the last out and the Rays mobbed the field. You can’t blame them for celebrating so much, it’s the first chance they’ve ever had to celebrate anything. But they better realize they have a lot more accomplish this year.

Meanwhile, the Cubs are in a position they’ve been in many times throughout their long history. They are division winners once again. And they celebrated too. But their celebration was a little less enthusiastic. They know that this season is a failure unless they win the World Series.

Cubs Manager Lou Pinella say that this season is a success without a World Series victory. But many Cubs fans would beg to differ. They have waited generations for another World Series title and they won’t be satisfied just making it to the playoffs. Plus this team is build to win it all right now.

So now is the time for the Cubs.

Over in the National League East the Philadelphia Phillies moved back into first place. The Mets dropped back into second place. This is a heck of a battle for the division title.

In the NL Wild Card, The Brewers couldn’t gain any ground. They’re still two and half games back. It doesn’t look like they’re going to be able to put anything together before the end of the season.

And in the AL Central, the White Sox lost too. So that division is still separated by two and a half games. It looks the White Sox will win it but the Twins are still within distance of catching them in the big series this week.
