MLB: AL Central Isn’t Over Yet

So the two biggest races in Major League Baseball right now are for the National League East and the National League Wild Card, right? Well, that certainly is true. But there is one more race that isn’t over quite yet. That’s the race for the AL Central.
The Twins entered play yesterday two and a half games back and a four game series with the Tampa Bay Rays looming. The first place Chicago White Sox entered yesterday with a one game series against the New York Yankees and then they take on the Kansas City. But the Twins won on Thursday while the White Sox lost. So now the lead is down to just a game and a half.
This division is far from over.
And there is a huge three game series coming up this week. The Minnesota Twins will visit the Chicago White Sox. That will definately decide the division. Or at least all but decide it.
But the Twins do have to stay close this weekend. They can’t afford to drop below a game a half back. If they do, then the White Sox will only need one of three games this next week.
Meanwhile, over in the National League, the Wild Card race is still way too tight to call. But the Mets do look like the team that will win it, if they don’t win the NL East. Because the Brewers are continuing to slide back and are now a game and a half back in the Wild Card. The Phillies still lead the NL East by a half game.
Over in the NL Central, the Chicago Cubs magic number has shrunk to two games while in the NL West, the Los Angeles Dodgers magic number sits at 7 games. It looks like the Arizona Diamondbacks are finally showing a little life but it’s a lot too little and a lot too late.
