NFL: Thoughts from Week One
Posted on | September 10, 2008 | No Comments
Let’s get one thing straight right away. Though the NFL season consists of only 16 games, the first two weeks can’t be used to determing how a season will go. Sure, the great teams will start out well, but some good teams will start poorly and some bad teams will start well.
With that being said, let’s take a look at four teams that looked the most impressive.
Those four teams are the Dallas Cowboys, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Buffalo Bills. Now, will these four teams be in their Conference Champsionship games? Probably not. But maybe. But for Week One they all looked very good.
And now on Monday night the Cowboys and the Eagles will meet up in Dallas. This is a huge match-up eventhough it’s only the second week of the season. Most “experts” agree that the Cowboys should be the favorite in the NFC (if not the entire NFL). But others think the Eagles are the team to beat. Both teams dominated their first game. So now we’ll see who gets the upper-hand early in the season.
The Buffalo Bills looking good had to send a warning signal to the rest of the AFC East. The Patriots were everyone’s pick to win the division. And the Jets – now with Brett Favre – were the next team on the radar. But the Pats lost Tom Brady so they’re suddenly very average. And the Jets looked average against the Dolphins. Could the Bills suddenly be the favorite? I think so.
And then the Steelers looked to be one of the best teams in the AFC again. Sure, it was just one week but Big Ben looked good and fast Willie Parker looked awesome. They may very well be the team to beat in the AFC. (But let’s not forget about the Jags, Colts, or Chargers).
Now, I am really putting way too much stock in week one. I know. But that makes me even more excited for week two. And it makes me really pumped to watch the Cowboys and Eagles on Monday night.
