MLB: White Sox Red Hot

Posted on | August 21, 2008 | No Comments

One of the closest division races of this season has been going on in the American League Central. The Chicago White Sox and the Minnesota Twins have been battling back and forth since May. And it doesn’t seem as if either team will gain any separation for the entire season.

But the Chicago White Sox are doing their best to pull away right now. They’ve won five straight games after completing a sweep over the pitiful Seattle Mariners. The White Sox didn’t even make it close. They completed the sweep on Wednesday afternoon by a score of 15-3.

However, despite their winning streak, the White Sox woke-up on Thursday morning at the top of the American League Central by only a single game. And now Chicago has to play the equally hot Tampa Bay Rays. So their winning streak might not last too much longer. The Rays just took a three game series from the team owning baseball‘s best record – the Anaheim Angels.

Lucky for the White Sox the second place Minnesota Twins are playing the Anaheim Angels this weekend. So both teams will have a tough next few games.

One more thing that needs mentioning before we wrap-up this post. Ken Griffey Jr. hit his 609th homer of his career. That ties him for fifth all time with Sammy Sosa. So Griffey has reached another milestone.

Despite this accomplishment, I still think the acquisition of Griffey makes this White Sox team worse instead of better, and I still think the Twins will beat out the Sox for this reason.
