MLB: Wild Games in Boston and Minnesota

Posted on | August 13, 2008 | No Comments

I was sitting here keeping track of all the baseball games (as I usually do) and I couldn’t belive it when I saw the Boston Red Sox put-up 10 (yes ten!) runs in the first innings.; The Red Sox did that against the Texas Rangers and when I saw it happen, I thought, “This one’s over.”

But I was wrong.

The Red Sox gave-up their 10 run lead (which was actually 12-2). The Rangers scored 8 runs in the fifth and then 5 runs in the sixth and carried a 16-15 lead into the bottom of the 8th before the Red Sox scored 4 more runs in that inning. The Rangers answered with one more run in the ninth but it wasn’t enough. The Red Sox walked away from this wild game with a 19-17 win.

As we look past the wild nature of this game, it shows that the Red Sox are still a team to be reckoned with. They scored all those runs, lost the lead thanks to their pitching staff, and then they fought back to still win the game. Most teams would’ve faded and finished with only the 12 runs they scored early.

Meanwhile, in Minnesota the Twins and the New York Yankees engaged in a crazy game. They fought back and forth too and eventually took their games into extea innings tied at six. The Twins got there with a three run eight inning. But it was the Yankees who put-up three more runs in the top of the 12th and held on for the 9-6 win.

While these crazy games wre happening, the tamp Bay Rays lost their game. (Ready to bring in Bonds yet?) That puts the shorthanded Rays just three games ahead of the Red Sox. Still, they are in great shape for the Wild Card, if they happen to get caught by the Red Sox. Their are 5.5 games ahead for the Wild Card. So they look really good for that, at the very least.

But after last night, the AL East is looking even more wild and fun.
