MLB: A Good Night for the Rays

Well, yesterday we looked at 3 big series that will be played this weekend. Two of the series involve teams from the American League East where the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are trying to make-up ground on the Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox are visiting the Chicago White Sox while the Yankees are visiting the Anaheim Angels.
So neither team has an easy series this weekend. The White Sox are fighting to stay on top of the AL Central while the Angels are perhaps the best team in baseball. Yet, the Red Sox and Yankees have to win because the Rays are playing the lowly Seattle Mariners this weekend.
Well, on Friday night the Rays took care of the Mariners and the White Sox took care of the Red Sox. And the Angels downed the Yankees. So the Rays’ lead now sits at three and half over the Red Sox and six and a half over the Yankees.
That’s good news for the Rays. Especially since their lead go eaasily grow by another game over the next two days. And really, they can pretty much bury the Yankees by the time this weekend is over.
Meanwhile, the big match-up in the National League, the one between the New York Mets and the Florida Marlins, went to the Mets on Friday night. With the Phillies losing on Friday, the Mets are now just a game back in the NL East. Meanwhile, the Marlins remained just a game and a half back.
There is one great race taking place in the NL East and it will probably only get better.
