MLB: Who Wants the AL Central?

Over the last few weeks (and in some cases the last few games) a couple of the divisions have really worked themselves out. The AL West is all bu decided. In fact, it is decided. The Anaheim Angels are running away with it. The NL Central is beginning to seriously tilt toward the Chicago Cubs. The Milwaukee Brewers are trying to stick with the Cubbies but the Brew Crew simply aren’t getting it done right now.

The Tampa Bay Rays have moved out to a three game lead in the AL East and the Philadelphia Phillies have opened up a two and half game lead in the NL East. Even the Arizona Diamondbacks have strung a few wins together in order to pull above .500 and take a game and a half lead in the division.

But things in the Al Central couldn’t be tighter. The Minesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox are locked in a first place tie and it doesn’t appear that either teams wants the lead.

The Twins had a half game lead in the division heading into a Monday night game with the lowly Seattle Mariners. Minnsota could’ve stretched their lead to a full game. Instead, they played horribly and lost the game. So now they’re tied with the White Sox.

Meanwhile, third place Detroit, who has been horrendous the last week and a half, is still only 6 games back. They should be out of it right now. But the White Sox have been almost as bad and Monday night the Twins looked worse.

So the Twins will now continue to play the Mariners and the White Sox will host the Tigers. The White Sox could effectively knock out the Tigers if they come up with a sweep. Or, the Tigers could get right back into the thick of things if the Twins stumble and Detroit sweeps the White Sox.

Judging by how this season has gone so far, neither the Twins nor the White Sox will pull away any time soon.
