MLB: 4th of July

As American celebrates their independence on the 4th of July, this is when teams have to be taken seriously. It’s when baseball kicks it up another notch. So now is a good time to take a look at the races in each league.
We start off in the American League East where pretty much everyone thought the Boston Red Sox would run away with the division. Not only has that not happened but Boston is actually three games behind the first place Tampa Bay Rays. Then there’s a huge drop-off to the next teams in the division – the Baltimore Orioles are nine games back and the New York Yankees are nine games back too. Then the Toronto Blue Jays are bringing up the back at thirteen games back.
Over in the AL Central the Chicago White Sox are clinging to first place. But the Minnesota Twins are charging hard. The Twins are just one game back. Then the Detroit Tigers check in at six games back followed by the Kansas City Royals (ten and a half games back) and the Cleveland Indians at twelve games back. The Indians are playing horrible ball right now and they are a huge disappointment.
The Anaheim Angels are in first place in the AL West. They have a comfortable five game lead over second place Oakland. Then the Texas Rangers check in at eight and a half games back and the Seattle Mariners are in the basement and eightteen games back. The Mariners are another big disappointment and they are pretty much done already.
If the season were to end today then the Rays, the White Sox, and then Angels would all be division winners. Then the Boston Red Sox would make it into the playoffs as the Wildcard. But there is still a lot of season to play and the Oakland A’s, Minnesota Twins, and Detroit Tigers still have a decent chance of winning their division.
