MLB: The Cubs Are Hot

Could this be the year for the Chicago Cubs?

There are many Cubs fans who are hoping it is. None of them more than the poor guy who supposedly stopped the Cubs run to the Championship a few years ago when Moises Alou thought he could’ve made a spectacular catch in foul territory. (I won’t mention the poor guy’s name here).

Anyway, all can and will be forgotten if the Cubs win it all this year. And there’s many years of frustration to be forgotten.

But this makes a perfect Hollywood movie, doesn’t it? With the old grizzled manager Lou Pinnella, the comeback player in Kerry Wood, and many other great storylines on this team. More importantly the Cubs have the pitching, the fielding, the hitting, and the managing to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Now, the Cubs have some very good teams who they’re going to need to beat in order to even get to the World Series.

The Arizona D-Backs are a very good team and they are going to be tough to beat in a 7 games series, especially with Brandon Webb. And the St. Louis Cardinals, in the National League Central with the Cubs, aren’t pushovers either. In fact, despite the Cubs being on a six game winnign streak, they still only lead the Cards by a couple games.

But you can’t blame the Cubs’ fans for being optimistic this year. Especially when the Cubs veteran reliever is saying things like, “This is the best team I’ve ever played on.” And that would include that team that nearly made it all the way to the World Series a few years ago.

Yes, it’s only June, but the Cubs are the hottest team in baseball right now.
