Perhaps all the New York Yankees needed was A-Rod back in the line-up. Because since he returned the Yankees have looked like a different ballclub. They’ve looked a lot more like the team that everyone thought they’d be.

The Yankees have won seven of their last ten and for the first time in a long time they aren’t in the basement of the American League East. They’ve bypassed the Baltimore Orioles and they’re now five and a half games behind the division leading Tampa Bay Rays.

Considering everything that’s been happening with the Yankees this year, they have to be thrilled to look at the standings and see themselves just abotu five games back. They can make most of that up in just one series against the Rays.

The Yanks also have to be happy about Joba Chamberlain. The team recently announced that the young pitcher will make his first start this coming Tuesday. If he’s anywhere near as good as a starting pitcher as he was from the bullpen then he’ll give the Yankees a much needed boost.

Meanwhile, the Arizona Diamondbacks continue to play bad baseball. It’s amazing to me. They have a very solid team but they just can’t seem to get it going right now., If not for the hige lead they build early in the season, they wouldn’t be in first place right now. As it is, the Dodgers are coming fast.

On Saturday the D-Backs will send Brandon Webb, who suddenly looks human after losing two games in a row. But if he can give them a good outing it might get them right back on the winning track.
