MLB: Sox Stay Hot, D-Backs Stumbling Again

On Thursday night the Boston Red Sox and the Chicago White Sox stayed hot. The Red Sox beat the Kansas City Royals and the Chicago White Sox beat the Cleveland Indians. The win moved the Red Sox to two and a half games in front of second place Tampa Bay Rays and the Chicago White Sox opened-up a three and a half game lead over the second place Minnesota Twins in the American League Central. Both of these teams are red-hot right now. Boston will now take their show to the west coast to play the Oakland A’s and the Chicago White Sox will stay at home and host the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Meanwhile, the Arizona Diamondbacks have hit another bump in the road. They just got swept by the Florida Marlins. This seems to be more of a trend with the D-Backs. They rattle off a few wins and then they lose a few games. Perhaps it’s the youth on the team that can’t seem to stay consistent. And while the D-Backs have struggled the Los Angeles Dodgers have strung three wins together. So now the Dodgers are just two and a half games back.
The Diamondbacks will now play the Atlanta Braves while the Dodgers will move onto play the St Louis Cardinals. So we will see what happens over the weekend – if the Dodgers continue to close ground or if the D-Backs swing back around and build on their lead a little bit.
Finally, since I’ve been on Sheffield’s case I guess I should say that he finally had a decent game yesterday. He cranked out three hits. So we’ll see if he can hit his weight at least or if he slides back down to the bottom of all the hitters in the Majors.
