This crazy baseball season continues to take its twists and turns. While the Red Sox and the Diamondbacks have hit surprising snags in their seasons these past few games, the Tiwns and the Rays have gotten hot and both are looking to make a lot of noise in their division.
Last year in the American league Central is was a close race between the Indians, the Twins, and the Tigers for much of the season. However, the Indians got hot in the last couple months of the season and they rode their wave to a fairly easy divisin title over the Detroit Tigers. Now it looks like the Twins may be trying to do the same, except earlier in the season.
Up until now, teams in the American league Central didn’t have to worry too much about playing average to bad baseball. No team was more than a game or two above .500 so no team was that far back. Well, now the teams in the AL Central better stand-up and take notice.
The Minnesota Twins are on a hot streak and they’re coming off a couplke victories against the Boston Red Sox. Suddenly they’re beginning to show signs of putting a little run together. And if the rest of the teams in the division don’t look out, the Twins just might run out to a 3 or 4 game lead.
Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Rays are making a real run at taking over first place in the AL East. Sure the Red Sox still have a game and half lead but the Rays have won 4 straight going into a series with the Yankees. If the Rays can look impressive in that series then people will have to take notice of them. And the Red Sox better be looking over their shoulders.
Sure, I know the Sox won’t really be concerned. They have the talent and the experience to win it all. But every game that the Rays play well they gain a little more confidence. So the Red Sox might be well-served to make sure they keep the lead over the Rays.
It will be interesting to see where the Rays and the Twins are in a week. Will they both sit atop their divisions or are they on the verge of taking a step back just like the other teams in their respective divisions? We will see soon enough…
