If the World Series were to begin today then the two teams battling it out to be the champion would be the Boston Red Sox and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Both teams looked very good on Thursday as they had their aces on the mound.
For Boston, it’s been a little bit of an up and down season so far. They started slowly, caught fire, hit another rough patch, and not they’re back to playing great ball again. They just three of four from the Detroit Tigers. Amd despite a couple of rough patches, they’ve still managed to earn the best record in the American league and to build a three and half game lead in the American league.
Josh Beckett earned the win last night. He silenced the Tigers’ bats a day after the Tigers scored 10 runs on the Red Sox pitching staff. Beckett was in control the entire game.
Meanwhile, in the National league, the Arizona Diamondbacks seem to have regained their form - as if they lost it in a couple game bad stretch. Leading the way for the D-Backs is Brandon Webb. They pitcher who seemed to come out of nowhere last year when he had an amazing scoreless inning stretch, just might be the best pitcher in baseball right now. He won his 8th game and it’s not even May yet. At this rate Webb has a decent shot at winning 30 games this year.
And the D-Backs have a very good shot at winning it all this year. Sure, I still think the Dodgers will puch them a little, but I don’t see Arizona not winning the National league West and not advancing to the World Series.
And imagine that Game One match-up - Beckett vs Webb. Wow, that would be something to see. And, as of right now, it looks like it just ight happen. Yeah, the season is still young, but both Boston and Arizona have tons of talent and they know how to win. Those two things are a lethal combination.
