August and September should be a lot fo fun. There are promises of many, many close races throughout the Majors and at least 3 or 4 of those promises has to be fulfilled.
Right now the American league West has a tie at the top of the division. So does the National league West. And the American league Central has just three and a half games separating the top from the bottom of the division.
So let’s take a look at each division and I’ll try to predict what will happen:
In the American league East the Boston Red Sox are obviously the class of the division. But they might get some pressure from the New York Yankees or even the Toronto Blue Jays. If the Jays can get some hitting, they certainly have the pitching. I don’t see the Rays or the Orioles doing anything eventhough the Rays had a very good start.
In the American league Central there will be a battle all year long. If the Tigers can ever get things figured out, I still think they have enough starting pitching to get the job done. But the Twins, the White Sox, or the Indians could very well win it too. I don’t think the Royals will finish outside of the basement.
In the Al West, expect the Oakland A’s and the Anaheim Angels to battle it out all season long. The Rangers and the Mariners will be mere spectators.
In the National league East the Mets are still the favorite. However, I do think the Philies will make some noise this year and I aslo think the Florida Marlins will stick around for awhile. The Braves can’t be discounted either. This will be a fun division to watch.
Over in the NL Central, I like Cardinals. The Cibs should win it but they have too much pressure on them and they aren’t as good as many thought they were. Of course, I could be wrong. But the Astros, Brewers, Reds, and Pirates are all pretty sorry clubs.
Finally, the NL West will be won by the Diamondbacks but I think the Dodgers might push them for a couple months. I can’t believe that the Padres won’t be able to hit all season, but I guess it’s possible given their line-up. The Giants and Rockies will battle to stay out of the basement.
